Homemade spaghetti sauce is really pretty easy and so much
better than the stuff in the jar. The
best part of the jar sauce is that you get a glass jar to reuse for your own
sauce! LOL I do use jar sauce on occasion but I really
only like very basic sauces. I don’t
like them too sweet or with too many different spices.
I made this batch in the crock pot. I just put everything in the crock pot and cooked
it on low for 6 hours!
Homemade
Spaghetti Sauce
1 medium onion chopped
5 cloves garlic minced
3 28 ounce cans of tomato sauce or puree
1 6 ounce can of tomato paste
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
10 fresh basil leaves sliced thin
Put everything in the crockpot, cover and cook over low
approximately 6 hours. Stir occasionally.
Serve over hot pasta of your choice.
This sauce can also be made on the stove in a big stock
pot. Make sure you stir often if you are
cooking on the stove so you don’t burn the bottom of the sauce. Simmer over low heat for at least an hour.
I used 2 28 ounce cans of puree and this bottle of the San
Marzano Passata for this batch.
Add water a quarter cup at a time to desired sauce
thickness.
You can also leave the onion and garlic whole – just fish
them out of the sauce before serving.
